Longleat has been a firm family favourite for many years and rightly
so, many parents may remember visiting as a child themselves. A recent
visit with my family was enjoyed by all, with plenty to keep us amused
all day. Longleat has organised the park into twelve separate attractions
for which tickets can be purchased separately or with a passport for
all twelve. *At £18 for adults and £14 for children the passport represents
good value, and Longleat should be congratulated in allowing you to
re-visit during the season until all the passport has been completed.
During our day we were only able to visit half the attractions, so
are already planning another
visit.
Our children (8 and 6)
were captivated by the animals in the safari park, although they
recognised most of them from books this was their first opportunity
to see them in real life. This allowed them to really appreciate
the true scale of the animals and how they behave together. Of great
amusement was the family of elephants washing themselves in the
river. As ever the monkeys were very mischievous, climbing all over
the cars.
In addition to the safari
park Longleat has developed a whole range of other attractions. The
great maze, the longest in the world proved quite a challenge, taking
over two hours to complete, we enjoyed every minute and found it very
rewarding, particularly as many of the other people we met in the
maze failed to complete it.
Other attractions that
we managed to visit included the Postman Pat exhibition, including
an animated recreation of the actual village, Greendale.
Doctor Who fans will
love the exhibition dedicated to the TV series, featuring an actual
full size replica of the Tardis.
The last attraction we
managed to fit in was the Adventure Castle, a large woodern fort
with plenty for the children to explore with turrets, bridges, swings
and slides, great for burning off some of that excess energy.
We run out of time to
visit the grounds and the house itself, but with the passport we
will be back another day. All in all a very enjoyable and stimulating
day for all the family.
