Popcorn Cake by Fred Ball

Makes: 6 Servings

  • 4 Qt. popped corn
  • 1/2 lb Gum drops
  • 1/2 lb Peanuts
  • 1 lb Marshmallows
  • 1/2 cups Melted margarine
  • 1/2 cup Corn oil

Melt marshmallows, margarine, and corn oil.
Pour over popcorn, nuts and gum drops.
Mix together and pat in a bundt cake pan or angel food cake pan.
Cool.

Clown Cake

Makes: 1 Cake

  • 1(18.25 oz.) package sponge cake mix
  • 2(16 oz.) containers ready-to-spread vanilla frosting
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon green liquid-food colouring
  • 1 Party hat, cut in half -lengthwise
  • 3 Grape-flavored chewy fruit-rolls by the foot, divided
  • 3 Cherry-flavored chew fruit-rolls by the foot, divided
  • 1(12 inch) piece string-licorice
  • 2 Gumdrops
  • 1 Red gumball

Prepare cake mix according to package directions, bake in a greased and floured 13x9 inch pan.
Cool on a wire rack 10 minutes, remove from pan, and finish cooling on wire rack.
Spread top and sides of cake with one container of frosting.
Stir together half of the remaining frosting and food colouring. (Reserve remaining frosting for another use.)
Pipe frosting around edges of cake.
Place party hat on cake.
Unroll 1 cherry fruit roll.
Remove plastic, refold into a 2 inch loop.
Holding loop at 1 end, cut through opposite fold.
Cut each wide strip into thin strips.
Follow same procedure, and make 3 pompoms for hair using 3 grape fruit rolls, place grape pompoms under hat and around face, reserving grape strip for mouth.
Outline face with licorice.
Using 1 cherry fruit roll, cut 2 ( 1 inch) ovals for mouth and eyes, reserving remaining fruit roll for ruffle.
Cut 1 oval in half for eyes.
Place pieces on face, adding gumdrops for eyes and reserved grape strip for mouth.
Place gumball in center for nose.
Make S-shaped folds for ruffle using remaining cherry fruit roll, place under face, pressing slightly into cake.
