They say that age brings wisdom, and nobody's arguing with that.
But when it comes to the less attractive signs of growing older,
most of us would like the chance to stay forever young. Dermatologists
and cosmetic surgeons are now closer than ever before to helping
turn back the clock - at least when it comes to the body's largest
and most complex organ, the skin.
Now, thanks to a better
understanding of how the skin ages, making major improvements to
the appearance of the skin no longer means getting a face-lift.
Research conducted by Clinique has revealed that UV exposure, skin
irritation and dehydration all cause weakening of the skin's natural
repair mechanisms and aggravate the arrival of wrinkles. But all
is not lost as now an assortment of age-assaulting ingredients are
available, which can restore skin's youthful texture, reduce existing
lines and even help prevent the onslaught of new ones. The idea
is to start early with the preventative measures available.
Jan Walsh of the Consumer
Analysis Group is currently undertaking research that will help
explain what aggravates the signs of aging on our skin. The results
of this research will be revealed on Tuesday 27 th July when Jan
joins us between 1630 – 1730 for an online chat. She'll be accompanied
by our Skin Expert, Dr Tom Mammone Ph.D. who'll be on hand to answer
all your skin queries and offer tips on getting healthy, glowing,
blemish free skin.
Dr Tom currently heads
Clinique Skin Biology Lab, a research group that studies the aging
process and biology of skin, whilst Jan is a well-known consumer
expert on TV and radio, who has presented shows on both Channel
4 and ITV. Dr Tom will be able to offer his expert advice by answering
all your questions about keeping your skin youthful and healthy
while Jan will be on hand to discuss the revolutionary results of
a new skin survey.
