Sufferers of meningitis
are being urged to come forward and tell their stories via a new
website to support ongoing research into the devastating after effects
of the disease.
The call comes as the
Meningitis Trust launched its new website as part of the Support
for Life campaign, which aims to encourage a greater understanding
of the after effects of meningitis and provide support to those
affected.
A campaign report published
by the Meningitis Trust in September stated that there was little
research available into the after effects of meningitis and that
thousands of people could be suffering in silence. The charity hopes
that its new site will encourage sufferers to come forward and tell
their stories.
Meningitis Trust Chief
Executive, Philip Kirby said "We know that meningitis leaves lives
and families devastated and people are living with the affects of
meningitis often for the rest of their lives - and we want to hear
from them. We have redeveloped the website in line with our Support
for Life campaign, focussing on improving the information for sufferers,
better access to support and community based staff and providing
an opportunity to contact our Helpline by email. Through user-friendly
navigation and simple design, we have made crucial life-saving information
available to all those who need it - whenever they need it."
The website can be found
at www.meningitis-trust.org
and visitors can tell their story by clicking on the 'tell your
story' link. Users can also access up-to-date information on meningitis,
its signs and symptoms, vaccinations, treatment and prevention.
The site also offers
dedicated pages for people across the UK on the 'in your area' section,
profiling local events, support groups and local contacts
The website was developed
by EPC Direct, Bristol and will be managed in-house.
