With statistics showing
that, in 2003, 8% of contact lenses were fitted to
children under 16 years old, Complete® RapidCare™, the battery
powered and portable contact lens cleaning device, enlisted the
help of Keith Holland Associates, an eye care practice with a special
interest in fitting children with contact lenses, to launch ‘Look!
No Glasses’. This educational guide for parents and children
aims to open people’s eyes to contact lenses as a real option for
youngsters.
When a child needs visual
correction glasses are often seen as the only answer. Although a
necessity for everyday activities such as school work and sport
children can find them awkward and restricting - sometimes preferring
to struggle on without them. ‘Look! No Glasses’ aims
to give kids a choice by offering expert advice and knowledge on
why contact lenses are not just for grown-ups. Written in an easy
to follow format by the ‘Childrens Eye Care Practice of the Year’
and produced in a funky design ‘Look! No Glasses’
provides a wealth of information. Satisfying inquisitive minds on
topics such as the cost of lenses, the age they can first be fitted
and wear and care the leaflet is both factual and interesting. There
is a section for parents too which will add reassurance about the
advantages of kids in contacts and bring peace of mind that it is
a real option meaning children will never look back.
Says Claire Holland,
Optometrist at award winning practice Keith Holland & Associates,
which has a special interest in caring for children’s eyes, “We
have fitted children with contact lenses across the UK and have
seen some amazing results. Children lead such busy lives and they
thrive on the freedom which contact lenses can bring. We want ‘Look!
No Glasses’ to inform parents and children everywhere that
wearing contact lenses is an easy and available option and not just
an alternative to glasses which is restricted to adulthood.”
Says Matthew Cox, who
has been wearing contact lenses since he was 12 years old “I play
a lot of sport but, like many schools, I was not allowed to wear
my glasses on the school pitch. This made it nearly impossible to
play as part of a team and I would often choose to sit out than
make a fool of myself. Matthew’s mum says, “he always has good all
round vision on the sports field now and there are obviously no
safety worries anymore as spectacles are not suitable for many sporting
activities”.
Since launching less
that 12 months ago the battery powered and portable Complete®
RapidCare™ Cleaner has been a hit with lens wearers. The lens
cleaner is particularly appealing to children who respond well to
pocket sized and technical devices. Evaluated by Moorfields Eye
Hospital, the patented agitation technology utilised by Complete®
RapidCare™ gives lenses a cleaning so thorough no long soak
is required – it just takes two minutes.
‘Look! No Glasses
will be available nationwide at selected opticians across the country.
