According
to a warning from the UK's food watchdog "Child obesity due to poor
nutrition and lack of exercise is a ticking time bomb for life expectancy
levels. 10% of all six-year-old kids in the UK are clinically obese
as are15% of all 15-year-olds."
These shocking statistics
have spurred Personal Training Company, The Tonic to devise a new
plan to combine quality family time with keeping fit and healthy.
This scheme launched just in time for the school holidays, will
also mean that many mums will be able to keep up with their own
exercise regimes while their children are off school during the
long summer break.
The Tonic Mums and Kids
sessions will take place in outdoor areas around London. Kids will
be able to run off excess energy with a range of supervised activities
involving balls, hoops, hurdles, skipping ropes and cones, whilst
mums can take part in a workout of their own with groups of other
women. Qualified personal trainers will be on hand to look after
the children whilst additional trainers will supervise the mums
to ensure they also benefit from a thorough training session.
Tonic Director Jeff
Archer commented, 'There have been a lot of articles featured in
the news about childhood obesity. We wanted to come up with something
that would encourage children to incorporate exercise into their
lives from a young age to hopefully set the tone for when they are
older. The scheme will also mean busy mums can use the time to have
their own workout.'
The Tonic Mums and Kids
sessions will last for one hour and cost £15 for one adult and one
child, plus £5 for each additional child.
