Tackle arthritis with explosive healing,
Tommy Smith style.

What do former Liverpool hard man Tommy Smith, ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson, and former England international Mick Channon have in common? That is, apart from glittering football careers in the 1970s, and international football.

After years of crunching tackles and physical knocks they now have a more troublesome bond: arthritis.

Many ex-sportsmen and women remain fit and active into their later lives, but it’s an established fact that serious cartilage damage, or damage caused by the repetitive pounding of the joints, does seriously increase the risk of osteoarthritis in later life.

Arthritis is now the biggest cause of physical disability in the UK. It is usually associated with the elderly, but in fact it affects people of all ages, and figures recently released revealed that more than 7m people in the UK (15% of the population) have long term health problems related to arthritis.

More and more drugs are coming onto the market to try to cope with the problem – but many of these NSAID drugs have serious, unpleasant side-effects. These include stomach upsets, heartburn, indigestion, rashes, headaches and wheeziness.

However, there is an alternative (and easy!) way to deal with the problem – by having a bath! Therapeutic ‘bath bombs’ contain essential ingredients which are absorbed through your skin in the course of 20 minutes as you bathe, easing the pain of joint injuries.

This is because these ‘JointSoothers™’ contain two key ingredients: MSM and Glucosamine. MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) is a natural and organic sulphur compound found in all living things, and is the fourth most prevalent mineral in the human body. It helps to reduce swelling around the joint, which relieves the pain.

Glucosamine is an amino acid sugar, proven in clinical studies to re-grow cartilage and slow the progression of arthritis. Its main function is to stimulate the growth of cartilage and prevent cartilage destruction, joint swelling, or loss of flexibility.

For decades glucosamine has been shown to be effective at easing the pain of arthritis and joint pain as well as going further to help rebuild cartilage - something traditional NSAID pain relievers are unable to do.

The hot water of the bath soothes the joints and opens the pores to allow the minerals to be easily absorbed straight into your blood stream. Additionally, the relaxation and tension relief afforded by regular hot bathing combats another major root cause of Arthritis: Stress. Stress increases the muscles’ need for calcium, which the body takes from the bone. This means the bone is weakened and more prone to Osteoporosis. The heat from the bath, along with the minerals absorbed from the bomb, combined with the relief that bathing affords from stress all contribute to the healing effect of the bath.

So, if joint pain is causing you concern, it may be time to swap your rubber duck for a ‘bath bomb’, and soak away your aches and pains.
