Head lice – ‘Chemical vs Natural’

Around 5% of the UK population is estimated to have head lice at any one time, with well over 100,000 new infestations per year. The ‘traditional’ way of treating head lice is through the use of insecticides and a range of natural products. When it comes to insecticides, however, there is growing evidence that their efficacy is weakening.

A recent article in Pharmacy Products Review, states that ‘increasingly, fewer adults want to expose their children to insecticides, so a growing number are turning towards natural products, such as Nice ‘n Clear’.

The feature also includes a quote from an industry source, who states: “The main reason we have an epidemic in the UK is because the chemical products are ineffective. People spend a lot of money using one product after another, and it’s now so widespread that people just accept the problem. Of those products that worked in the past – probably 80% of them don’t work now.”

Nice ‘n Clear (with neem oil) is the UK’s leading natural head lice lotion, to which head lice do not become resistant. It is a safe, effective and gentle solution that will remedy head lice without harming even the most sensitive skin.

Marie Anderson’s daughter Demi is nine years old and has repeatedly caught head lice. Her school was rife with the problem, and every time an outbreak occurred, Demi would catch them. Marie had tried everything – Lyclear, Sylmax and even vinegar but nothing worked – the lice would just return. Finally, the school sent out a leaflet on head lice that mentioned Nice ‘n Clear. The next time Demi caught head lice, her Mum tried this natural preparation and to her delight, the lice have not returned.

Nice ‘n Clear costs £8.99 for 200 ml and is available from Boots, Holland & Barrett, Lloyds, Moss pharmacies, Co-op and independent pharmacies and health food stores. Or call 0800 289 515 or go to www.lice.co.uk
