Choosing a school

Choosing your child's school is possibly the biggest decision you are ever going to make on their behalf.

Although most of this site is concerned with helping the parents of children at State primary schools, this is not the only choice.

You may already have made certain decisions, such as whether to send your child to a state or independent school, whether you want your child to go to a church or other religious school, or whether or not you want your child to wear a school uniform.

If you haven't already made the decision, here are some things you might like to think about:

Even if you already know the answers to these questions, you may still find yourself with a choice of schools. Some of these may have a better reputation than others for behaviour or academic excellence; then again, you may feel that your child will simply do better in a certain kind of atmosphere (more creative, say, or more formal).

You may even decide not to send your child to school at all, but to educate them at home instead. Some parents may simply prefer to do this - others have children with learning or behavioural difficulties, and feel that their children will do best in a non-traditional setting. Still others feel the same way because they have gifted children.
