Camping in Holland Last year the Lovesey's headed to Holland for a family camping holiday. With modern equipment, camping is great for families. Many sites are geared up for children, with safe play areas, indoor swimming pools and clubs to keep them amused. James and Thomas love the freedom of being able to run around on a site and make lots of friends. |

We have a trailer tent (Conway Cruiser), it is a cross between a caravan and frame tent. The main part literally pops up out of the trailer in a few minutes. On board there are beds for six (cosy), cooker, fridge, TV and heating. For longer stays there is an awning, which literally doubles the space. |
| For our trip to Holland we were booked in on the early Fastcat (2 hours) from Dover to Ostend. To avoid a very early start, we camped over night close to the port. From Ostend it was about a three hour drive north to Wassenaar, where our camp site Duinrell is located. |

Duinrell is actually a large theme park (like Alton Towers) with an attached camp site and self catering chalet accommodation. The park also contains one of the largest indoor pools we have ever seen, with flumes, wave machines and some very large water slides. With all this available entertainment, some people never leave the site, importantly there are facilities for all weathers. The actual camp site is situated on a wooded island, away from the main park, but the noise of the attractions can be heard during the day. The camping site is a car free zone, except for arrival and departure days, being Holland cycles rule the way. |

For those who venture beyond the park, there is plenty to see. We took our bikes and made the most of Holland's renowned cycle ways. Wassenaar, is a pleasant large village a few minutes away and a lovely sandy beach about a twenty minute ride with children. We also had day trips to Amersterdam, Delft (potteries) and the tulips. Holland has an excellent integrated public transport system, allowing us to make extensive use of double decker trains, buses and trams, which the boys loved. Duinrell is a great place for families, but not for a peaceful holiday. There is plenty to keep the children amused, whatever the weather and if the excitement of the theme park gets too much, there is a wide range of stimulating day trips within easy travelling distance of the site. The ten day holiday cost just under £600, which included the camping, ferry and insurance. Amazingly it also included daily passes to the theme park and swimming complex, these alone were worth at least £50 each day !!!. We booked through Eurocamp Independent, who can also arrange accommodation either in their tents or chalets. Links |
