We're going on a bear hunt
This is one of those apparently simple
little picture books that makes people think anyone can do it.
But such simplicity is actually extremely difficult to achieve.
There's not much of a plot - some children go off with their
father and dog to hunt a bear, and encounter various obstacles
along the way; when they find it, they also discover that the
bear can hold its own... no reason is given for any of this.
The joy is in the language, the pacing and the gorgeous pictures.
I was drawn to read it - and read it aloud - over and over again,
even without a child in sight.
A wonderful book to read - and an even
better one to read aloud. |
