Tanfield Rangers are a school football team like no other - for no other side has a habit of slipping back and forth in time.

In this, the second boook in the Time Rangers series, some of the team slip back to the time of the English Civil War, when the plague is ravaging England. Caught out in a blizzard, with no certainty of a way home and a squad of Roundheads on their tails, the boys still manage to save the day for a village isolated by the plague.

This fast moving chapter book manages to sneak quite a lot of historical information into its pages. The need to cram the footballing background (a whole match is described in some detail) in as well as the time travel
plot means the story is, perhaps, a bit thinner than it might otherwise have been. However, it fairly cracks along, and the main characters are well drawn and quite sympathetic. This could be just the thing to pull in a reading-resistant young lad (or football crazy girl, I suppose!)
